Appeal over driver shooting paintballs at people in north London

A man who fired a paintball gun at pedestrians while driving down streets in north London is being sought by police.
The man, described as white and in his 40s, was seen driving a white Mercedes 350GLE on false number plates, the Metropolitan Police said.
So far, 18 people - men and women - have contacted the force to say they had been fired on with paintballs and suffered bruising as a result.
The first incident took place around 9pm on Friday, 5 August on Camden Road.
The suspect then continued the paintball blasts as he drove through Archway, Holloway, Islington, Clerkenwell and Canonbury.
His last reported assaults occurred at around 11pm the same night.
It is believed the suspect may have been in the company of one or more people who were driving a red Ford Focus.
The Mercedes has since been seen parked in the N1 and EC1 areas of Islington.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Alex Simmons at Islington on 020 7421 0262 or via 101.

Briton accused of Trump shooting bid admits lesser offences

A Briton accused of trying to shoot Donald Trump at a Las Vegas rally has pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
Michael Sandford, 20, of Dorking, Surrey, appeared in court on Tuesday charged with trying to grab a policeman's gun to attack the Republican presidential candidate in June.
But he has pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting government business after an apparent plea deal.
Admitting the federal charges means he is expected to receive about two years in a US prison and deported.
"I tried to take a gun from a policeman to shoot someone with, and I'm pleading guilty," Sandford told a judge in Las Vegas.
The 20-year-old, who was arrested on 18 June after reaching for the gun in a 1,500-seat venue, could have faced up to 20 years in jail if he had been convicted at trial of both charges.

Last week his mother, Lynne Sandford, and a lawyer arrived from London and met with him in custody.
Earlier today, Mrs Sandford told ITV News London about the plea deal
She said: "I was very relieved that he signed it. It was a bit of a battle because he is quite headstrong.
"But we all laid the options out there for him on the table and, of course, it is a gamble."
Mrs Sandford has previously described her son as vulnerable, explaining he suffers from a number of mental health issues including autism, anxiety, depression and anorexia.
She says he would not have understood the consequences of his actions.

iOS 10: What to expect from Apple's latest operating system

As Apple launches its newest operating system for iPhone and iPad, Sky News takes a look at what is set to be included in the release.
:: While Apple stole headlines for ditching the headphone jack on its new iPhone 7, the device's iOS 10 operating system has attracted less attention. However, the tech giant has billed the OS as its "biggest release yet".

:: The latest version of the software will ship with the iPhone 7 from 16 September, but will be available for download on older devices from 6pm UK time on Tuesday. Users will need an iPhone 5 or newer to be eligible.
:: For iPad users, those with an iPad mini 2, 3 or 4, the iPad fourth generation or either of the iPad Air models will be able to update. Both sizes of the iPad Pro and the sixth generation of the iPod Touch will also be able to run the software.
:: In iOS 10 a number of small tweaks have been made to the iMessage app, one of which allows users to send notes in their own handwriting.

:: In a bid to keep up with Whatsapp, Apple has also added the ability to replace words with emojis in one tap.
:: As part of changes to the Maps app, iOS 10 will give suggestions for where it thinks its users will travel. For instance, it will show the quickest route home or to work.
:: The updated app will also let users search for petrol stations and coffee shops while on route to a destination. The changes are part of an effort to improve Maps, which has previously been criticised as inferior to Google's navigation app.
:: One of the biggest changes in iOS 10 is "Raise to wake". The setting circumnavigates the iPhone's power/sleep button and allows users to wake the device simply by picking it up.

:: Minor changes to the device's touchscreen keyboard have also been included in iOS 10. As  a small time-saver users will be able to write in two languages without switching between keyboards, while "contextual predictions" will give prompts based on what is being typed.
:: For instance, when "I'm available at" is typed the calendar pops up with schedule suggestions.
:: Updates to the Photos app will give users the ability to group images in "memories" and make slideshow films out of them. The latter feature is already part of the Google Photos app.
:: Previous updates to different versions of iOS 8 and 9 have caused users to lose images saved on the Photos app. The problem was so widespread that Apple published a guide to restoring lost data on its website.

Clinton admits ignoring doctor's advice after pneumonia diagnosis

Hillary Clinton has said she will resume campaigning within the "next couple of days", as she admitted ignoring doctor's advice after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Mrs Clinton seemed to buckle while waiting to get into a minivan at a ceremony to mark 15 years since the 9/11 terror attacks in New York, and she needed help from her security detail.

However, in a phone interview with CNN, the Democratic candidate said she became dizzy but did not lose consciousness.

The 68-year-old said she felt immediately better after getting into her air-conditioned vehicle.

In the interview she admitted she had earlier been diagnosed with pneumonia and was told to rest for five days.

Bill Clinton said his wife was "doing fine" and insisted "she just got dehydrated".

Ebola nurse Pauline Cafferkey faces disciplinary hearing

Ebola nurse Pauline Cafferkey is facing a disciplinary hearing later over allegations she hid her temperature during checks on her return to the UK.

It is not known if the Scottish medical worker, who was infected with the virus in December 2014 while working in Sierra Leone, will attend the two-day hearing in Edinburgh.

A panel from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which has the power to strike workers off the professional register, will consider claims she gave dishonest answers to medical staff during screening at Heathrow.

Details of the finalised charges which will be considered have not yet been released by the NMC, but draft allegations emerged last month, something which Ms Cafferkey received an apology for.

It is alleged Ms Cafferkey "allowed an incorrect temperature to be recorded" on 29 December 2014 and "intended to conceal from Public Health England staff that you had a temperature higher than 38C".

It is claimed she omitted to tell the Public Health England screening staff who took her temperature at the airport that she had recently taken paracetamol which might have affected her temperature reading.

The registered nurse went to Sierra Leone to work with the sick at the height of the outbreak of the highly infectious disease and then returned to Scotland, via Heathrow, before she was diagnosed.

She spent a month in an isolation unit at London's Royal Free Hospital before recovering, but was admitted to hospital on two separate occasions after suffering complications.

At one stage she was in a critical condition.

Earlier this year, Ms Cafferkey spoke of her stress that the claims had not been dealt in the more-than 18-month-period since she had returned to the UK.

A cause of death was not given.
During her career Alexis appeared in Pulp Fiction, Last Exit To Brooklyn, Of Mice and Men and The Bride of Chucky.
She also had roles on the small screen in Roseanne, Friends and Californication.
Born Robert Arquette, Alexis transitioned to become a woman in 2006 - an experience which was documented in a film which screened at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival.
She went on to become an activist for transgender rights.
Richmond Arquette said his sister's decision to "live her truth" as a transgender woman effectively ended her career.
He said: "Despite the fact that there are few parts for trans actors, she refused to play roles that were demeaning or stereotypical.
"She was a vanguard in the fight for understanding and acceptance of all trans people."
Richmond added: "As Alexis transitioned into being a woman, she taught us tolerance and acceptance.
"As she moved through her process she became our sister, teaching us what real love is."
In one of her smaller roles Alexis Arquette played a Boy George impersonator in The Wedding Singer.
Boy George was among a number of celebrities who paid tribute.
Courteney Cox, who was married to Alexis' brother David for 14 years, tweeted: "My heart goes out to anyone who was lucky enough to know Alexis.
"We will love and miss you forever."
David Arquette added: "Thank you all for your love and kind words about Alexis.
"My hero for eternity."
