Johnson Takes On Campaign 'Egg-Thrower'

Boris Johnson tackled a potential egg-thrower out on the Brexit campaign trail, telling him "don't waste that egg" because "there are people hungry in this country".
The former London mayor was out in York defending his remarks about bendy bananas when he headed off 22-year-old student Simon Grigg, who had come to the event armed with eggs.
As he was winding up his speech, Mr Johnson said: "Now I was told there was a gentleman with an egg ..."
And to cheers, he added: "There are people hungry in this country my friend. Don't waste that egg."
Mr Grigg said he had taken three eggs with him to the event but denied he was going to throw one saying: "The egg was to cause a scene."
He said he had put one of the eggs in the pocket of a Vote Leave supporter but added he was protesting against the Conservative Party and not Vote Leave or the EU.
With a month to go to the EU referendum Mr Johnson is touring the country on his Vote Leave battle bus.
He hit back at criticism from the Remain camp that he was myth-peddling by quoting EU legislation governing the "curvature" of bananas.
He said: "I said the other day that there was an EU directive on bananas.
"And the Remain campaign got very angry - they said that I was wrong.
"I was wrong. Shall I tell you what? There isn't one directive - there are four directives on bananas, including on the curvature of bananas.
"Do you think we need to be told by the EU about what sort of bananas we are selling, or how powerful our hairdryers are, or how much suction there should be in our vacuum cleaners? It's out of control."
Mr Johnson was criticised during a Treasury Select Committee hearing in March for "exaggerating" EU claims.
He also hit out at the Treasury analysis unveiled at an event with David Cameron and George Osborne on Monday morning, accusing them of pumping out propaganda.
He said: "I think they're rattled on the Remain side because they're putting out more propaganda than we've seen at any time since 1992 when they said that we couldn't leave the European Exchange Rate Mechanism. Do you remember that?
"They said it would be a disaster, they said interest rates would go up and it would be an economic catastrophe for this country if we left the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, that's what the Treasury said.
"And what happened? It was a liberation for this economy. We did better than ever before.
"They were wrong then, my friends, and they are wrong now."
