The pensioner died after ambulance crew were called to Chaville Way, near Finchley Central station, at 12.35pm, said a Scotland Yard spokesman.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.15pm.
Police said: "At this early stage, officers believe the man was caught by a gust of wind and blown off the pavement against the side of a moving bus."
A post-mortem examination and formal identification will now take place.
The storm has brought strong winds and heavy rain, causing Cumbria - one of the worst-affected areas - to declare a "major incident"
Some residents have been forced to evacuate their homes in towns such as Keswick and Appleby effectively cut off by flooding.
The Met Office has issued "red" flood alerts - its highest for severe weather - for parts of Scotland and north west England.
Transport and road networks are facing major disruption as a result.
