Run-DMC To Receive Lifetime Achievement Grammy

The trio, made up of Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Joseph "Reverend Run" Simmons and the late Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell, join funk band Earth, Wind And Fire, Herbie Hancock and Jefferson Airplane.
Rev Run tweeted: "I just got a call from the Grammys!! They shocked me!! We're the first rappers to get this award!!
"Shocked! Grateful!. God is good!!! I’m so honored to be a #GRAMMYs Lifetime Achievement Award recipient this year. Thank you to the Recording Academy!"
A special ceremony and concert celebrating the honourees will be held later in the year.

"Each year, The Academy has the distinct privilege of honouring those who have greatly contributed to our industry and cultural heritage, and this year we have a gifted and brilliant group of honourees," said Neil Portnow, president of The Recording Academy.
"Their exceptional accomplishments, contributions, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire generations to come."
Linda Ronstadt, Ruth Brown and Celia Cruz were also named in the list.
Run-DMC were founded in Queens in 1981 and are widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in the hip hop industry.
They were the first group in the genre to have a gold album and to be nominated for a Grammy Award.
The Grammy Awards will be held on 15 February.
