Saudi envoy defends human rights in the Kingdom

abia's 2015 appointment to head a key committee of the United Nation's Human Rights Council was highly criticised, with some pointing to the fact the Kingdom has not signed a number of UN human rights conventions.
In this web extra, Abdallah al-Mouallimi, the Saudi ambassador to the UN, defends the country's designation saying: "Everybody knew what we signed and did not sign, and based on that, we were elected."
When asked about the Saudi ban on women drivers, Mouallimi says: "I think women should be allowed to drive." But he adds: "I think this is a matter for society to ultimately decide."
Watch the first part of Mehdi Hasan's interview with Mouallimiin which the ambassador discusses the ISIL and the Kingdom's involvement in Yemen and Syria.
