As tax season descends so do the scammers looking to capitalize on other people's refunds.
Police in Philadelphia are warning about a major scam involving at least one person who's been calling and leaving threatening voicemail messages.
The anonymous caller says that ignoring the call would be seen as "as an intentional attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge."
The caller then asks the person to verify their name, date of birth and social security number, and says it's "an IRS situation."
Giving the scammer that information could land them a huge refund in your name, and cause your legitimate refund to be rejected.
Police say that if you get a call like this you should hang up, call 911 and fill out a scam report at Treasury.gov.
