White House on lockdown over shooting at US Capitol

The US Capitol and the White House were put on lockdown on Monday after reports of shots fired at the Capitol Visitors Center, US media reported.
A US Capitol Police officer was shot  at the Capitol Visitor Center complex, and the shooter was taken into custody, Capitol officials and police said.
Al Jazeera's Shihab Rattansi, reporting from Washington DC, said, "The gunman has been taken in to custody, however the information is very sketchy right now. The area is under complete lockdown".
The US Capitol Police are telling those in the Capitol complex to shelter in place after the gunshots.
The situation was apparently contained to the Visitors Center but no further information was immediately available.
