Corbyn Tells Kebab Awards: Have Salad On Top

Vegetarian Jeremy Corbyn has told an audience at the British Kebab Awards to "have some salad on top" as he made a key presentation.

Presenting the Outstanding Contribution to the British kebab industry the Labour leader made a quick plug for a "balanced diet" by adding some salad.

Mr Corbyn, who stopped eating meet when he was 20, said he was a "vegetarian aficionado of kebab shops" and added that he was always pleased to "enjoy a good falafel".

He told those gathered for the fourth British Kebab Awards: "When people buy kebabs, I want them to have salad on top so they can have the balanced diet we all need."

He said that kebab shops were a "place of great discourse and discussion".

The Labour mayoral candidate Sadiq Khan, who has been trying to distance himself from the Labour leader was also at the event.

Mr Khan's name appeared on a loyalty list of Labour MPs apparently drawn up by Corbyn allies - he was in the group marked down as hostile to Mr Corbyn.
